me playing with the ring
flash. it gives the light a beautiful feel to it, but wow,
it's so big, it's certainly bigger than the camera itself, and
attracts a lot of attention...however, having something so big
hanging off the front of my camera seems to lead people to believe
that i'm either a professional or that i know what i'm doing
(neither of the two are true), and they tend to get out of my way
more at shows, that's kinda good.
someone asked me what i do to the pictures in post, here's the
short story for this picture: started by duplicating the base
layer, switching it to overlay mode and applying some gausian blur
to the overlay layer. that alone is 80% of the final effect. then
there are a number of curves layers, masked to various parts of
the pictures, which change the color and darken the brick wall,
brighten kim's hair, and fix oscar's skin which had a really weird
color due to the red ambient lights and the white flash (gels,
don't leave home without 'em).
free advice: don't drink too much home made romanian
grappa. not a good idea.
