Form 2 student giggles in embarrassment while having her picture taken. PGSS, Chisitu, Malawi.
Labor day at PGSS, no classes or other school related activities, most of the time was spent cleaning or studying (mainly in the morning) or just hanging out (mainly in the afternoon). (nb: i'm referring to the students obviously, i certainly didn't do any studying)
I got to read a short story written by one of the form 2 students today. I'd understood that she had written a crime story, I was expecting page after page of clichés and scenes stolen from the latest movie. Instead what I ended up reading was her auto biography. The tale of what it was like to go from being a very rich family when her father's business was successful to, a few years later, selling their furniture to pay her school fees after her father's business collapsed.
Landscapes change, languages vary, wealth comes and goes, and nations will always do the horrendous and wonderful things nations do, but people? Everywhere I go all I see are pebbles in the surf.
