Marco Baringer's attempt to answer the question "What's life like for a high school student in the poorest and most densely populated country in Africa?"

The photo essay documents the past, present and future of Idah Savala, a smart young girl from a small village in rural Malawi. The works show Idah's normal day to day life: from her afternoons spent shelling maize and peanuts with her family; to her days studying at one of Malawi's impoverished boarding schools; to a possible future life in Lilongwe, Malawi's hastily expanding capital city.
